A SPECIAL FRIEND

There should be a poem within me today,
I have enough thoughts bouncing 'round...
I'll fool around with these first few lines;
When I'm done, we'll see how they sound.

I'd rather come up with a lighter one,
But I never choose how they'll go...
I have a feeling this will concern
Whispering Jeannie, and Papa Joe!

Jeannie's a recent friend I've made,
I feel it's a friendship that can grow.
If our hearts and minds join "THE SAME SONG",
No telling how far it may go.

She gets herself into trouble sometimes,
With that very 'welcoming' voice...
She's learning fast not to talk to just anyone,
She knows now how to make that choice!

When a person first talks on that darn C.B.,
You want to just gab to them all,
But it doesn't take long, when they take your words wrong,
To learn they're just waiting for your fall!

Yes, they're an odd bunch out there on the air,
But they're just people, like you and me.
It's puzzling how C.B. changes them so,
How malicious some of them can be!

If you were to meet them in the grocery store,
Or just walking down the street..
I would venture a guess you'd hardly recognize them,
They'd be so friendly and 'sweet'!

It puzzles me why man 'preys' on man
As if there's nothing else to do.
Now before we go any further with this,
Understand me, those kind are very few.

Most of the folks out there on the air
Key-up just to pass the time.
Maybe one in twenty you'll meet face to face.
The others...just to talk to, is fine.

But occasionally, a genuine friendship is formed,
And I guess that makes it worthwhile.
That's really how you and I met, Jeannie..
Your voice had that special 'smile'.

You wonder, does a voice really have a smile?
Oh don't doubt it, it really is true.
Much about a person, is told by their voice
That's the first thing I liked about you!

I listened beyond that 'radio voice' of yours,
And heard the voice you really possess.
I liked what I heard, and wanted more...
We're friends now, and put to the test.

Where now, from here, remains to be seen.
It is strictly up to the Lord.
One thing I know for certain, is this:
When with Jeannie, I'm certainly not bored!

I have a feeling there may be more poems,
Possibly not as 'light' as this one.
But Jeannie, I sincerely want you to know
Knowing you, so far has been fun!
