DISTANCE LENDS ENCHANTMENT

Remember those beautiful picture calendars,
with the scenes that capture the eye?
The fantastic trees, mountains and streams
and puffy white clouds in the sky?

It might be a scene of a field of flowers;
Or some simple rolling hills.
Maybe a towering Grizzly Bear
wandering casually, wherever it wills!

Well, by now you get the idea,
such inviting and near perfect scenes;
But now, step-up CLOSE, right there on the spot,
And it might not be what it seemed!

Some trees are so dense you can't see the sun;
Mountains can be dangerous, and it's cold there.
How much beauty is there, standing eye to eye
Right next to that hungry 'ol bear?

That sparkling stream flowing down the hill
wouldn't have quite the same effect,
if you suffered from thirst, but it was polluted,
and one drink would mean certain death!

Well, we've admired from afar, this variety of scenes,
and the beauty is anything but annoying!
But by getting up close...becoming involved,
we discover two sides to each coin.

Then what am I saying, there is no real beauty?
That what appears pleasant is really not?
No, that's not at all what I'm saying, and not what I mean
bear with me...and follow my thought:

I'm simply relating in this life that we share,
That 'Distance Lends Enchantment', is true;
But we might not have the friendship we enjoy,
if I didn't accept the OVERALL.. you!

If two people meet, and like one another,
a friendship is formed, and can grow...
It's accepting one another, just as we are,
in spite of the weak points, we know.

So view life broadly...both distant and close,
and put the overall picture together.
If STILL acceptable...just as it is,
Then THAT friendship can only get BETTER!
