DOWN THE ROAD

People often talk about the future
In a variety of different ways:
One will talk of ‘years-to-come’,
While another says, ‘one of these days’.
 
Then there are those with ‘sometime in the future’,
Others with, ‘who knows what the future will hold’?
But one of my old time favorites is
The expression of, ‘Down the Road’.
 
Well, while these words go down on paper,
I realize that’s where we are today.
We’re ‘down the road’ from a while back,
So let’s see what today has to say:
 
Praise the Lord, I’m happily married
To a swell gal who loves the Lord.
I find myself between jobs right now,
But, staying busy to prevent being bored!
 
My daughter is happily married
To a guy who’s head’s on straight.
My youngest son’s got a job he likes;
He’s eighteen, going on twenty-eight!
 
The oldest boy, God bless his heart
Is doing fine, under his present load.
Our daily prayer is for his safe return,
And it’ll happen, ‘On Down The Road’.
 
Looking forward now, shall we fear or dread
Tomorrows’ happenings, which we don’t know?
Well, as for me, I’ll do my best,...then
Trust the Lord for what’s ‘down the road’.
