GROWING PAINS

As I sit here typing these ‘off the cuff’ words,
The clock says it’s 2 A.M.
It makes me wonder just a little bit,
Is it early .... or is it late again?

Early or late, ‘guess that’s a relative thing,
In a direct relationship to time.
I’m writing these words about 1988,
In a brand-new year......1989!

Yes, it’s January 1st of a brand new year.
This last year seemed to whiz by so fast.
I like where I am, at this space in time,
Thinking about the year that has passed.

1988 was a good year for us,
Our blessings were MORE than a FEW!
HE paid our bills, and cured our ills,
And allowed me to relate this to you.

The Lord brought a son back home to us,
It was an agonizing seven years.
They say ‘with absence, the heart grows fonder;
But it didn’t happen without shedding some tears.

He allowed a marriage to another of our sons,
And in the process, we realized quite a gain:
We’ve become Grandma & Grandpa THREE more times!
And we’re happy with what the Lord has ordained.

Our daughter is heading in the same direction,
And if so, we’ll be Grand-parents once again:
We’ll add TWO MORE to the growing numbers,
Before you know it, we’ll be one short of TEN!

Mary and I, and of course OUR little guy,
We’re all happy with what our kids did.
In case you’ve lost tract of WHO’S in OUR pack,
Well, OUR little ‘guy’s name is .......SID!
