NOTA FROMA ‘TALIANO

I joosta wanna tella story bout some nice-a guy I meet ona boat, whena I come-a to thisa country:
 
Wasa longa trip!  Take-a vera many daysa to final geta here!  Whena tha boat, she pull upa to tha docka, I wasa say to thisa guy, “I wonder where my luggage-a she is?”  He say, “I’ma Czeck”.
 
I say, “Ima glad to meecha you.  I’ma ‘Taliano”.
 
He say, “No, I meena I’ma czeka for whera your luggage is”.
 
I say, “oh!  Thanga you, too much!”  Then, I splain to heem, “It’sa the biga boxa witha rope rounda it.”
 
Againa, he say, “I’m czeck”!  Againa, I say, “I’ma ‘taliano, I’ma glad to meech you”.
 
He waze mumbela somethin’ aza he walk away, but I’ma don’t understand czecka, so I joosta smile.
 
Pooty-soona he come back ana he say, “I dona find”.
 
I say, “I doona fina too.  I’ma glad yoo doona fine, but yoo fina my luggage?”
 
Waza stranga look he giva me!  Thena he say, “I’m look-agin”.
 
I say, “I’m Guiseppi”.
 
Againa, he give me funny looka!  (Stranga peeple, theesa czecks!)
 
   Well, thisa go ona for longa time. I waza get bored with talka to heem.  Befora I leeve, I tolla heem, “I’ma gonna go to some schoola for learna to speek English better, but I donta know where to go?”
 
He say, “I’ma czeck for you”.
 
I say, “For Me?”
 
He say, “Yesa, who elsa?”
 
I say, “Who elsa you wanna?”


Agin, he looka kinda funny ata me!  (I thinka he waza kind-a strange!  Funny peepls, these Czecks!)
 
 
Final, I’ma say, ”Forgeta tha luggage.  I”ma czecka tomorrow.”
 
He say, “Today you ‘Taliano, tomorrow you czeck!  See whata wonderful cuntry we coma too?”
 
Well folksa, with that I give upa!  Good thinga I know how to swim so good!  I clima onto tha docka, alla wet and tired, anna I aska the man who waza there how to find-a this address onna the paper I had.
 
He said, “I’ma czeck”!
 
.....Well, thatsa why I’m writa this letter to you from Italy!  Too many czecka ina you country!
