REAL LIFE OF THE PAST

Sitting here, pondering how to write it
Puts my mind in a state of confusion.
Relating to you what I want to convey,
About a most real, and sad delusion.

It has to do with how 'temporal' things are,
Even LIFE is so short, at its best;
About the time a person becomes wise and productive
Life ends, and they're laid to rest.

Well, that's OK, I can accept that.
It's what happens during life I'm thinking of.
I realize now that nothing is lasting...
Well, maybe nothing except real love!

It's almost enough to instill a fear,
Don't appreciate anything too long.
You just get to liking something so much..
The 'bubble' breaks,..POOF! And it's gone!

Strange how 'things' become special to us,
We associate memories with those special things.
You think they're not special?, Not in your memory?
Ponder a while on you wedding rings!

It doesn't necessarily have to be expensive..
Its value is of a different kind.
A theater ticket or a party napkin
Can trigger treasured moments in your mind.

They say it's not good to live in the past,
And I agree...we're HERE, NOW, TODAY;
But the past HAS a part in our overall life..
Erase it?..Forget it?..........NO WAY!

Keep things in their proper perspective..
Harder to do, than it is to say.
I'm wondering if the past was the real life,
While it's just dreams and illusions, today?!
