THANK YOU!

FROM Me and LITTLE ONE

Ariva!  Ariva!.. That's what I heard
On that old C.B. of mine...
For a moment I thought the frequency changed
To the 'Bugs Bunny Cartoon Time'!

"Speedy Gonzales here," the voice said next,
So we left the dial right there...
"This is MICHIGAN SPEEDY GONZALES", he said...
"Is anyone else out there?"

I waited a moment, then grabbed the mike
And said, "This is Papa Joe!
Hello Michigan Speedy Gonzales...
How are you, and what do you know?"

He gave his numbers and came back to me
Answering, he was 'wery' fine!
I wondered, as he spoke to me
Where he dug up that line!

One word led to another
And, in time I understood...
The person I was speaking to
Was genuinely sincere and good!

He was from another country...
I finally discovered that.
He said, "Maybe I say 'Wery',
But you guys say 'Dis and Dat!'

"So tell me, what makes the difference,
In the way that we each talk...?
The thing that really matters is,
We can share our ideas and thoughts."

As time went on, we learned for sure
Gonzales was well informed...
We've talked of food and cars and such
From evening 'till early morn!

So much has happened from then till now...
It just can't be told in a poem...
But when you're visiting Sam and Ausies' house,
You can be sure, ..you'll feel at home!

It's not a stately mansion...
Or a terribly roomy place,
But the pleasure of knowing Sam and Ausie
Makes up for the lack of space!

They are really fantastic people..
A real friendship is what we've made,
When I hear his voice on the radio,
It's one I'll never evade!

One night he had a request to make,
So I asked, "What is it you want us to do?"
"I want you to make me a leather item,
But I don't know if you'll be willing to!"

I said, "Papa Joe and Little One CAN DO!
What is it that you would like made?"
He came back and said, "A JOCK-STRAP!..
But I want you to make it with SUEDE!"

Well, I keyed-up, and said, "NO WAY!
We don't do that kind of stuff...
But the more I thought, I told Little One:
"We ought to just call his bluff!"

Well, it was one thirty in the morning,
And our last call on the C.B. was made...
We talked of going to bed, but I said:
"Donna, bring in that old piece of suede!"

She looked at me in disbelief,
But by then, she knew full well
That his leather request would soon be filled.
"What you won't do for a Pal!"

Yes, that's how we met 'ol Speedy Gonzales,
His handle now, is KODI BEAR.
They came to our shop, both he and his wife,
To pick-up his suede underwear!

A lot has happened, since we first met,
Jesus called our LITTLE ONE home;
But she and I were so blessed by this friendship
That we dedicate to them, this poem.

GOD BLESS YOU!  Sam and Aussie,
Knowing YOU has truly been fun.
You added TRUE friendship to her last days,
THANK YOU! From me and LITTLE ONE!
