THE REST OF MY LIFE

“I have the rest of my life, you see”...
These are the words that I specifically heard.
As I passed a trio in conversation one day,
The first addressed the second and third:
 
“Yeah, there’s no hurry for me...
I have more TIME than MONEY”.
At first I kinda chuckled at that,
But realized it really wasn’t funny!
 
He went on to say he had ”all the time in the world”.
That NO ONE would change HIS pace”!
I mulled that thought over, and wondered how he’d act
If his time came to meet JESUS, face to face?
 
Would he change his attitude, just a little bit?
Or would he follow his same stubborn ways?
Did he have any knowledge of what the Scriptures say,
About how our lives last just so many days?
 
“A lifetime” can seem such a very long time,
But when compared to eternity,
The WORD says “our lives are but a vapor”..
That’s like a drop of water put into the sea!
 
Yes, he was right!  He has the REST of his life,
But is that such a very long span?
A lifetime is only ‘a drop in the bucket’...
Compared to eternity, which captures each man.
 
During eternity is when we will realize
What this thing called LIFE was all about.
Will we be in eternal misery and pain,
Or be able to sing and HIS praises shout?
 
Yes, we have ‘the rest of our lives to live’...
But we might be wise to let someone change its pace.
We are ALL hurrying on to our destiny,
Will it be HELL, or with Jesus, Face to Face?
 
Joshua said, “We will serve the Lord’,
To me that seems the right choice.
Then should we just live ‘the rest of our lives out,
Or should we be seeking our Master’s voice?
