THINGS

Things, things... what are 'things'?
All kinds of trinkets and toys.
They can be dollies for girls, and all sorts of nice things
And God only, knows WHAT for boys!
 
Grown-ups get 'hooked' on many things also,
All sorts of gadgets and ploys.
I've heard the only difference between a boy and a man
Is how much they each spend on their toys!
 
Some of these things can become very special,
More meaningful than most other things,
It might be a special souvenir you have
Or maybe a special ring!
 
I had a ring once... a very special one,
It had a diamond right in the middle.
It was special to ME, but apparently,
To someone else, it meant very little!
 
Strange how things trigger thoughts in your mind,
Like a unique place, or a special person.
Knowing my ring is gone, and I don't know where,
Causes me to keep on hurtin....
 
Because I remember the special feeling it gave the giver,
That, in turn, gave ME a special feeling too!
Well, all I can say to whomever may wear it is,
I hope it was given with as much love, to YOU!
